Narva-Jõesuu Summer Schools, all its programmes included, is a series of educational events where people of various cultures, ages, traditions and backgrounds unite to study, explore, discuss and make friends. This short code of conduct is for everyone to ensure the safety and comfort of all the processes for all the parties involved. We expect everyone to reveal mutual trust and respect, to take care of each other and to resolve conflicts in a reasonable and constructive manner, once such might arise, and the below mentioned rules are here for you to make this clearer.
- We are always quite diverse groups, and miscommunication might happen even when no transgression was intended, but please do assume the best of others in the first place. This does not apply to harassment and discrimination, which are subject to zero tolerance
- Please try to communicate clearly when asking someone to change their behaviour.
- Never tolerate the behaviour you feel or consider inappropriate. Should such happen, please report immediately.
- Please listen to the other party and ask questions rather than assuming.
- Please accept and respect it when someone asks you to change your behaviour or to back off, even if you don’t understand why.
- Harassment, bullying and discrimination will not be tolerated. This means e.g., sexual harassment, violence, sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or any kind of possible discrimination on national, religious, health or any other possible grounds.
- Please don’t make assumptions on a person’s health status, gender, ethnicity, sexual preference, etc based on their looks. Instead, respect self-determination: no one knows better who and what they are but the person themself.
- Please be aware of and respect each other’s boundaries.
- Please support each other, check in on people who look like they’re not well, and ask for help when needed.
- Please respect all other participants of any status, be it in class, during the excursion, or in any other activities.
- Do follow our rules in terms of day routine and everything related, as those rules have been elaborated through decades of experience.
We expect all participants of all the events related to Narva-Jõesuu Summer Schools project to honour this code of conduct as well as the Estonian (and other countries’ where we may be holding our events) law during the event, online and on any other occasions related.
